Have we lost our marbles?

First our incandescent light-bulbs and now drop side cribs. Who the hell does the government think they are to dictate what we can and can't buy? Especially when neither one of these products is dangerous. And a better question is, why do we let them? Why do we just sit here passively and take it?
Read this Free Range post on how secretly drop side cribs aren't dangerous; in fact if you look at the statistics with even an ounce of common sense (something the government is incapable of doing) they are pretty dang safe. And then if you are as outraged as I am, do something about it like harassing your senators and congressman about the issue. While you are at it harass them about the light bulbs too, so I can stop hoarding them.

from everything I've read about drop-sides, most of the deaths could probably be avoided if they simply went back to the way they manufactured them back in the day with a metal slide bar instead of the plastic of today...it is the plastic slide panel that allows for babies to push the side out far enough to get their heads stuck in it. i guess it just seems to me like this could be fixed easily enough and you wouldn't have to outlaw them.
Jake and I were just discussing this very thing today (the cribs, not the light bulbs, he's all for the CFL's and I couldn't care less). It's amazing and just a little bit ridiculous that they are banning these cribs completely when statistically speaking, they aren't all that dangerous. People go crazy with a little negative information and that, in turn, drives me crazy.
Steph, I think your missing the point. Jake loves CFL's, you don't care either way, and I hate them but, there is nothing dangerous about the incandescent bulb and no reason to ban it. We as consumers should be able to decide what kind of light bulb we want to buy just as parents should be able to decide what crib their child sleeps in. What we should be upset about is that the government thinks they have the right to do this. They don't. And every-time we let them get away with it because of our apathy they get more brazen and that is a dangerous thing for all of us.
